Culture Entertainment and Sport in Cork
Cork City was designated European Capital of Culture 2006. It has some excellent theatres including the Everyman Theatre and the Cork Opera House.
The city hosts an annual JazzFestival in October which attracts many of the worlds top jazz musicians and thousands of music fans. This festival is considered to be one of the best in the world.
Sport is a big part of daily life in Cork. Gaelic games (gaelic football and hurling) are the most popular sports but the county also has some of Ireland's leading soccer and rugby clubs and horse racing is also very popular with a very good racecourse at Mallow.
There are golf clubs all around the county, the mos famous being the Old Head of Kinsale Club.
Sailing is a major sport in Cork Harbour and West Cork and much of the Beara peninsula is a mecca for hillwalkers and climbers.
Interesting Buildings in Cork include St Finbarrs Cathedral, St. Anne's Church Shandon (The Bells of Shandon), The Custom House, The Circuit Court House and The Military Museum at Collins Barracks.
